So many fascinating economic issues, so little time to blog.
Here are some of the fun items that I would have discussed in recent days if I had infinite time:
- How OpenTable uses its market power. Over at Incanto, Mark Pastore describes how OpenTable uses its dominant position in online restaurant reservations to get as much profit as possible from participating restaurants.
- The battle against the lionfish. Over at the New York Times, Erik Olsen discusses the battle against the beautiful, venomous, and extremely-out-of-place lionfish in the Florida Keys. As I discussed some time ago, this is a rare case in which the tragedy of the commons is a good thing.
- How did instant run-off voting do in the most recent elections? Also over at the New York Times, Zusha Elinson and Gerry Shih describe how Jean Quan won Oakland’s mayoral race by appealing for voters’ second-place votes in a ranked-choice election.
