Child Mortality and Development, the Video

Courtesy of Bill Gates, here’s Hans Rosling talking child mortality and development.

(Gates emphasizes foreign aid in his description, but that seems secondary compared to development generally.)

  1. 15% of all Americans are currently eating only because they qualify for food stamps. 1 in 4 children in America lives in poverty, in what was once the richest nation on earth.

Economists are failing their countrymen, they offer no policies, no ideas, no analysis, simply more of the same that has brought us to this failure. If economics is about resource allocation and distribution, then poverty and hunger are certainly within their perview.

Please help those less fortunate during the holidays, and the rest of the year, with charity and especially good will which seems to be sorely lacking in our current dilemma. The economic depression will end one of these days, but the poverty will go on unless we make an effort to change this world for the better.
